Spend a weekend in the woods learning a pure form of ancient pottery. From ground to kiln. Our tutor for this weekend course is Matthew Tyas a very knowledgable ceramicist with a great interest in heritage pottery.
Matt will guide you through the different stages of making, decorating and firing clay with expert care and attention.
From clues in the landscape we are taught where to find our clay and then how to prepare it for use. You will be decorating your own clay tiles and then firing them in a sawdust kiln overnight in the woods.
Over the weekend Matthew will demonstrate the different techniques involved in making ceramic vessels and objects and you will have chance to get your hands dirty making something of your own. It maybe a coil pot, a carved clay storage box, a pinch pot or a moulded item. Whatever you make you can be sure of help and advice. Your finished pieces will be fired by Matthew in his studio kiln and forwarded to you.
There are 8 places on the course and Rose from Taste the wild will be there to help and supply food and drink for everyone over the weekend. There is free accomodation in our tipis if you fancy it or you can bring your own tent. If camping is not for you then there is a range of local accomodation available at extra cost (see links). The course will be held in a covered area in the woods, so please wear suitable clothing.
